World Of War Winner

With Remembrance Day on the 11th November it was the time of year to remember those who have lost their lives fighting for our country. Whether war has affected you or your family or you would like to celebrate those soldiers who have fallen throughout history, we wanted to hear from you. Whatever your thoughts on war, we wanted to hear them through the power of poetry. Lest we forget.

Thank you to every who took part, we loved reading all of your poems.

Congratulations to the winner of £25 and a copy of the publication they appear in...

Diane Johnson, Harrogate
Poem Published In: World Of War

Two Minutes

She sits with her cup of tea gone cold,
Held in a naked hand grown old
And listens to the silence.
She fills the silence with imagined scenes
Of the happy life that should have been
And the seconds tick on.
She lifts her hand to touch his face
And remembers the love in his embrace
And the seconds tick on.
She smiles at imagined children at play
Shared bath times, stories at the end of the day.
And the seconds tick on.
She welcomes him home with a smile and a kiss.
She's baked apple pie, a favourite of his.
And the seconds tick on.
She plumps up the cushion in his favourite chair.
Two people in love with a lifetime to share.
And the seconds tick on.
She stares at the photo blurred through her tears
And mourns at the loss of those wasted years.
And the seconds tick on.
The bell chimes; two minutes gone.
But for her the silence carries on.
Two minutes to count up all that war costs.
But for her it's the count of a lifetime lost.
And the seconds tick on.

Forward Poetry's ethos has always been to act as a bridge to publication rather than a barrier. This, along with our passion for poetry and creative writing, has seen a humble family business evolve into the biggest publisher of new poetry in the world. We understand that poetry is subjective, that everyone writes in a different style and that what one person can love, another can hate! Our collections showcase a variety of themes, writing styles and poets from all walks of life. They are carefully edited and compiled to celebrate and complement the craft that all of our contributors enjoy poetry.
