In the early morning of life
The sands through the hourglass of time
Do so slowly seem to flow:
Energy levels are high; tasks are few
Thus time is that delay waiting for:
That next meal of the day
That next chance with friends to play
By late morning
Learning has occupied our time
In preparation
For our adult role
And in the expectation
Of having with another
A loving and rewarding
Inter relation
The early afternoon sees a task escalation
Family responsibilities are now our lot
And tasks now take on a toll of time
And energy levels suffer quite a drop
’Tis then a glimpse is caught of that upland green
From where the chains of care are shed
And where a loving mother and wife
May now - at long last - relax instead
’Tis now the evening of life
The loved one is lost
Energy levels are low
Tasks fill the time left
For those who are bereft
Time marches on – regardless
