The Leaf

I take upon my morning stroll
In a woodland oh so green
The silence wakes up my soul
And the air it is so clean
The sun peeps through the treetops
As the clouds drift on their way
I sit upon a tree stump and marvel at the day
Just for a little moment I can look inside my soul
Or am I just between Heaven and Earth? For this I do not know
A butterfly flutters past me as it goes up on its way
Perhaps to find some nectar or does it only want to play?
There's a wind in the treetop
Some leaves have broken away
As they float down in the air waves my hand reaches out to save
I will place it in my memory book of events of yesterday
And recall of how it got there on some other distant day
This little leaf I captured it never reached the Earth
The entry underneath it will be its epitaph.
