Poetry took a back seat whilst I concentrated on earning a living in the voluntary and public sectors however more recently I began writing poems again which felt like rediscovering my spirit.
When I'm writing poetry I feel very connected to the person I've always been.
My dearest wish would be to have the time and space to write every day and despite still needing to earn a living I take my writing very seriously these days.
I've got a blog - 'Jane's Writing Shed' - where I put those poems which best reflect my progress in writing and I'm learning how to tap into my creativity even when life requires me to focus on family and work.
Becoming a member of The Poetry Society opened up the world of poetry hugely and entering poetry competitions has helped my confidence as a writer.
Last year I met Kona McPhee for a poetry surgery session organised by The Poetry Society and The Scottish Poetry Library. This was inspirational and helped me to be more critical of my writing.
This April I was delighted to receive a letter from The Forward Press informing me that one of my poems, 'Beach Drama' based on my observations about an oystercatcher on a Highland beach had been chosen for a forthcoming anthology.
