International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day was first announced by UNESCO on November 17, 1965. Each year Literacy Day has a theme aiming to highlight the importance of literacy to communities, individuals and societies in third world countries. This year International Literacy Day will be held on the 8th September and the theme is based on literacy and peace.

We are inviting poets from across the globe to send a poem or short story (maximum words 250) keeping the theme in mind, to mark the occasion. Ten poets will have the chance to have their work featured on our Literacy Day dedication page and will also be awarded with a copy of Creating Fictional Characters � The Essential Guide, courtesy of Need 2 Know Books.

How to enter

To enter send your full name, address and poem or short story to prizedraw@forwardpoetry.co.uk or upload to our website. Also make sure you add 'Literacy Day' to your subject heading.
