'Maybe I was never destined to be creative' would have been how I d
escribed myself when I was at school and throughout my career. Maybe I had never had the time to really focus on what creativity meant. I considered myself a failure as far as arts and crafts were concerned and that was the end of that!
When I had to retire from my career as a paediatric nurse due to ill health I started to have the time to learn new skills. Practise didn't exactly make perfect but it was enjoyable and fun! I met new people and had many opportunities to pass the time experimenting with new ideas and hobbies.
Having a Christian faith is also important to me. It may seem alien to many people but I started to write poetry after a very challenging time related to my faith. It was cathartic and I changed dramatically having been able to express many feelings. People related to the poetry I shared and I learnt that a lot of their feelings, about very different circumstances, were also expressed in the words I had written.
Life has changed a lot since those days in the 1980s. I still write and have chosen some very different poems again based on life experiences or things which I have seen, heard, or been involved with. I hope that whatever you see in each verse will mean something to you too. It might be that it triggers a memory or feeling related to something you have encountered. Whatever it is, thank you for reading my poetry.
