Back in the days when I was little
A cave I called my home
My parents were hunter gatherers
In a land where mammoths roamed
A simple life we had back then
A picture of perfection
Yes I sometimes feel that old
When staring at my reflection
OK, I know I exaggerate
But it’s strange what comes into mind
When you get a stark reminder
That the years have been unkind.
My body is a complete wreck
My health is very poor
Stood on the point of extinction
Rather like the dinosaur
Some people try to be helpful
Saying words that may appeal
But it doesn’t work for me
When they say you’re only as old as you feel
And I don’t buy that line
That I am told all the time
That I am getting better with age
Like a vintage bottle of wine
I’ve weathered skin and haggard looks
No hope for this poor patient
With no energy to search for that fountain of youth
I am feeling ancient.
